From the blurb:
Arjuna is the immortal tale of one of India’s greatest heroes. These pages retell in riveting detail the story of the Pandava Warrior-Prince who has captured the imagination of millions across centuries. This is the intense and human story of his loves, friendship, ambitions, weaknesses and follies, as well as his untimely death and revival, his stint as a eunuch, and the innermost reaches of his thoughts. Told in a refreshingly modern and humorous style and set against the staggering backdrop of the Mahabharata. Arjuna’s story appeals equally to the average, discerning reader and the scholar. It spans the epic journey from before his birth, when omens foretold his greatness, across the fabled, wondrous landscape that was his life.
“Excuse me Ma’m” said he
“Yes?” I asked, a little angrily.
”Can I talk to you for a couple of minutes, please?” He asked
“Sure!” said I in an indifferent tone.
What was it worth ? She wondered. Why had she even agreed to marry without buying enough time?
A year and a half back, she got married. Her’s was a typical Indian arranged marriage . One of those where the parents of the bride and groom “fix” their wedding. Where bride and groom meet only about six or seven times before they tie the knot. The kinds where they start talking to each other only after they’re engaged to each other, being bound by the groom’s family “tradition” . Her parents gladly took up all the expenses to buy their princess and her new family whatever was needed to help her settle down “in a new family”.They adored her.
Why is the cage slipping down all of a sudden?? Oh, it looks like we’re going to be landing soon !! Finally! I can’t wait to get out of this cage!! Oh… by the way.. I’m Gabbar. I’m an Indian dog , and belong to the dachshund breed . You know..the short, stout kinds? My master Ravi moved with his family to Dubai. Some city in UAE. Ravi is married to Riya. They also have a son Nitin who I consider to be my best friend. Nitin and I are of the same age. We’re like brothers . Best friends . Like Calvin and Hobbes. I love pouncing on him and licking him all over when he comes back from school.
Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?
I don’t remember growing older
When did they?
Scene: At a holy pilgrimage place , 6 years back
Me: “Do we really have to do this? Wouldn’t visiting the temple at RT Nagar suffice?”
Mom: “I prayed and promised the lord that I would bring you here once you graduated and got yourself a job”
Me: (Sigh)“How does being pushed and shoved in a maddening crowd for hours on end make sense when the same thing can be achieved at home ? Anyways ,lets finish it if it makes you happy”
“Caw!” said the Crow,
“Welcome! Good morning!” said Dad, as he got up to feed his pets- A crow and squirrel- some bread, and have his first smoke of the day.
